PIPELINE DESIGN AND ROUTING

During thirty four years that Robert E. McFadden, PE has worked in the pipeline industry, he has gained significant experience in routing of pipelines through all types of terrain, both onshore and offshore.

Terrains encountered have included pasture lands; wooded areas; swamps; major water crossings of rivers, bays, gulfs, lakes and streams; mountainous areas, deserts, city streets, utility corridors, highway corridors, and railroad corridors.

Mr. McFadden has routed pipelines using the latest GIS, GPS and satellite imagery technologies as well as using helicopters, airplanes, boats, cars, trucks and on the ground survey techniques.

He is experienced in all types of subsurface routing conditions that are likely to be encountered. He is familiar with construction techniques required for excavation of various types of rock, sand, organic material, wet areas and other issues that will have a direct bearing on the cost of the pipeline installation.  He has also designed many installations by horizontal directional drilling and has designed subsurface geological investigation programs to insure the feasibility of these projects.

Mr. McFadden’s offshore routing experience includes subsea hot tap tie-ins to existing pipelines and to subsurface production wells, as well as risers and approaches to existing platforms.  He is experienced at designing subsea crossings of pipelines and has designed numerous underwater inspection programs both by divers and remote operated submarine vehicles.
